During our work experience with international architecture offices we have been involved in many award winning projects in Asia, Europe, USA and Canada. With the most recent large scale project 2002-2004 at Moriyama & Teshima and Griffiths Rankin Cook: The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. This concept, an internal competition known as D2 was realized with a compromise to include the large fin and the view to the peace tower on Parliament Hill.

DETAIL MODELS

THEATRE CONSTRUCTION

Inspired by the monumentallity and texture of the concrete walls of bunkers and the understanding that perfect concrete can only be poured in other countries with the use of plasticisers, the exterior walls of the war museum were created in a rough cut board form and made with concrete that was saturated with the maximum allowable flyash content to create a unique, but fully appropriate materiality and texture - simply one of the worst possible specification for a concrete surface. The results were exceptional; from mossy green to various shades of grey with an allowance for gaps between the boards to permit the concrete to ooze out between the boards.

ROOF PATH

The Canadian War Museum design has been awarded multiple national and international awards, OAA Award of Excellence in 2006, Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) International Award, Design Exchange Award and most recently a Govenor General's Medal For Architecture 2008.
